Entertainment consumption analysis

 Entertainment Survey Analysis

My research topic: Entertainment consumption
Target: Japanese and International students
Number of respondents: 17

(Summary) Students answered 11 questions, 8 of which were about their entertainment consumption habits

Results:

Graph 1 shows that the most popular form of entertainment throughout the survey, regardless of nationality, was a tie between social media and listening to music. This was not very surprising seeing as how social media and music are the forms of entertainment with the largest reach in the world when it comes to online entertainment.

Graph 2 moves on to explore how often students participate in activities socially, as opposed to alone. The majority of people seemed to enjoy their entertainment with company

Graph 3 is the answer to the question that is similar to number 2, however it explores the willingness to participate in activities with other people. This graph shows that most people did indeed prefer to do activities with other people.

Graph 4 shows the purpose of entertainment for each person. This result surprised me, as most people used entertainment to keep in touch, or hang out with friends, rather than to entertain themselves as the activity would suggest.

Graph 5 explores the specific activities that people like to do with others. As expected, gaming seems to be the number 1 pick, as it is the easiest method to hang out with people across large distances, but partying also tied at number 1. I expected sports to be higher, due to clubs and after school activities being so prevalent in Japan.

Graph 6 explores how one discovers new methods of entertainment. Unsurprisingly, social media took the top spot, but I expected advertisements to take a bigger piece of the pie. The rest of the results are quite unsurprising. Streaming platforms are only really used by gamers.

Due to the rising trend of short-form content, and the increased consumption of it, I decided to ask about tiktok and instagram reels, and youtube shorts, and how this has affected how people spend their free moments. Unsurprisingly, this has completely changed how people use their spare time.

Lastly, the question on the difference between entertainment culture between Japanese and international students. This was mainly asking the responders to speculate what they think the difference is. Some of the answers were not really helpful, but a lot of them helped me understand what international students think the Japanese entertainment culture is like.
